This card was designed as a daughter card for an application requiring a DSP which was used for telephony applications. The DSP and related components such as SRAM, EPROM, and clock circuitry made up an autonomous processing unit that could be swapped out as requirements changed. This way faster DSP chips or differing amount of memory capacity could be easily accommodated.
