The StarfishPRO is being introduced with support for the next generation of Kodak Interline CCD chips. The sensors span the range of resolutions from 1 MPixel all the way to 8 MPixels. All are based upon a newly developed pixel structure that provide significant enhancements from their previous generation sensors. From Eastman Kodak company press release:

The eighth generation of Interline Transfer CCD technology developed by Kodak, this new platform reduces pixel size by almost 50%, doubles the maximum frame rate available from the image sensor, and provides a significant increase in image quality compared to the previous technology generation.
